CE 2.0 services certification was defined and approved by the MEF member companies over a period of several years, and the MEF Board of Directors is responsible for approving the third party test lab (Iometrix) to carry out CE 2.0 certification and testing. The MEF Certification Committee develops and promotes the MEF Certification program strategy. However, the MEF is not party to the commercial or testing aspects of the testing which are agreed directly between the service provider and the third party approved test lab.

Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO): Reference Architecture and Framework
LSO is an agile approach to streamlining and automating the service lifecycle in a sustainable fashion for coordinated management and control across all network domains responsible for delivering an end-to-end Connectivity Service (e.g., Carrier Ethernet, IP VPN, MPLS, etc.). This document describes a Reference Architecture and Framework for orchestrating the service lifecycle.
Interface Profile Specification – Service Configuration and Activation
This Interface Profile Specification specifies Legato Management Interface in support of MEF 6.2 Services and is a realization of relevant classes from MEF 7.3 Information Model. The LEGATO_SCA Interface is for use at a Service Orchestrator Function for interfacing with Business Applications as described in MEF LSO RA and process for Service Configuration & Activation.
Ethernet Ordering Technical Specification - Business Requirements and Use Cases
This document represents the cumulative work between MEF and ATIS Ordering and Billing Forum (OBF) to identify the common ordering attributes and processes needed to support inter-carrier Product Ordering of Ethernet Services worldwide. This document supports the requirements defined in the MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) Reference Architecture and Framework (MEF 55, LSO RA) requirements for Ordering over the Sonata interface (Service Provider <-> Partner interactions).
The program is available to small wholesale Operators that offer Carrier Ethernet E-Access and/or E-Transit services and have annual revenue of US$50 million or less. Key features of the program include operators being able to obtain MEF services certification, without becoming a MEF member, and gaining access to MEF marketing platforms, tools and training.
“We are very pleased to be the first Canadian wholesale Carrier Ethernet Operator to participate in this new MEF program. It allows us to demonstrate to our major customers our commitment to offering standards-defined wholesale services and to streamline interconnection with us to deliver end-to-end Carrier Ethernet connectivity for locations across the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia region.“
Program participants can have their E-Access and E-Transit services certified with a cost effective model optimized for small wholesale Operators without becoming a MEF member. MEF certification strengthens an Operator's brand and demonstrates compliance with Ethernet standards, an important consideration for wholesale customer RFPs and ongoing customer quality requirements. CE 2.0 certified services have the same high branding value for all service providers, regardless of size or location. After certifying services, wholesale Operators and their certified services are included in the highly visible MEF Certification Registry.
Certification Requirements & Pricing
CE 2.0 certified equipment must be in use at the external interfaces of those E-Access and/ or E-Transit service(s) to be certified.
Note: The certification testing of E-Access services offered by Operators that are certifying within the framework of the MEF Services Interconnect program is the same as the certification testing of E-Access services for Service Providers certifying within the framework of MEF membership.
Inclusion in MEF Services Directory
MEF's Services Directory offers greater visibility for your Carrier Ethernet services among existing and prospective service provider customers. This directory contains detailed information about your wholesale Carrier Ethernet services. As part of the MEF's public site, the directory provides a highly visible profile for small Operators to their existing and potential service provider customers.
Industry Recognized MEF Program Logo
Program participants can use the exclusive MEF Services Interconnect Program logo on all of their marketing collateral to increase market awareness of their Ethernet wholesale services. This unique logo strengthens their brand by among existing and potential service provider customers.
Exclusive Program Content and Educational Activities
Program participants have exclusive access to the latest technical, operations and lifecycle services orchestration (LSO) work of the MEF membership in the area of wholesale Carrier Ethernet services. This information, which is generally restricted to MEF members, provides valuable intelligence to guide business and technical decisions.
Services Interconnect Program Wiki and Webinars
The MEF provides program participants unlimited corporate access to a Services Interconnect “wiki”, a valuable repository for materials, events and other program information. Additionally, periodic educational webinars will be held as industry developments arise. Access to the wiki and webinars provides a unique way to stay ahead of your competition by gaining valuable insight into the work of the MEF.

MEF Certification Registry
The MEF Certification Registry is a unique MEF-sourced listing of those companies that have achieved certification of CE 1.0 and/or CE 2.0 compliance of their services and products.
The Registry provides the names of the services and products and the ID number of the Test Report that can be requested from the certified companyshowing the technical details of the tests.
The MEF Certification Registry is accessed in two separate listings for MEF Certified Service Providers and MEF Certified Network Equipment Manufacturers:
The MEF Certification Program enables service providers to certify that their Carrier Ethernet services comply with the relevant MEF specifications.
The program has been a significant contribution to the successful worldwide deployment of Carrier Ethernet worldwide with more than 200 certified service products deployed by more than 70 service providers using around 500 certified products from 80 equipment manufacturers.
Details of all current service certifications and providers are available in the MEF Certification Registry.
Available CE 2.0 Certifications
- E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree, E-Access and E-Transit
Introduced in 2012, CE 2.0 certification represents a significant test of functionality and is driven by the rapidly growing market demand for CE 2.0 services. The CE 2.0 certification testing is the result of rigorous testing by a third party MEF-approved test lab using 634 test cases derived from the MEF specifications. CE 2.0 certification testing replaces many months, or even years, of expert internal test development for the 5 CE 2.0 service types – E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree, E-Access and E-Transit.
Impact of Services Certification
- Brings CE 2.0 benefits to market much faster with higher quality and at lower cost
- Accelerates deployment by creating a standardized, trusted baseline
- The 634 test cases replace many months or even years of test development
- CE 2.0 in RFPs prequalifies and speeds vendor selection
- Creates proper recognition, differentiation for companies offering advanced CE 2.0 services and products
- Greatly accelerates time-to business
- Fast track to joining the Carrier Ethernet community and realizing profitable new revenue from existing footprint
- Reduces implementation risk and speeds procurement
When a CE 2.0 service certification is successfully achieved for the first time, the service provider is subsequently referred to as a CE 2.0 Service Provider and is provided with a customizable CE 2.0 Service Provider Marketing Kit which includes:- a CE 2.0 certificate; CE 2.0 Test Report; customizable presentations and a comprehensive CE 2.0 Press Kit. CE 2.0 Service Providers and their CE 2.0 services are entered into the MEF Certification Registry.
