Welcome new MEF members:

The Proof of Concept Showcase at MEF16 will provide an opportunity for service providers and network and service orchestration technology providers to spotlight innovations that promise to advance the Third Network services & technology landscape.

MEF16 is focused on enabling dynamic “Third Network” services for the digital economy & the hyper-connected world. These emerging services provide an on-demand, orchestrated, and assured experience with user-directed control over network resources and cloud connectivity. Optimized for real-time traffic, QoS-enabled, secured traffic and integration of value-added network functions-as-a-service, these dynamic services are delivered over more automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks powered by CE 2.0, LSO, SDN and NFV.

As part of the UNITE program, the MEF is playing a major role in aligning the ecosystem of industry standards and open source players to accelerate the industry transition to more agile, assured, and orchestrated network services. OpenCS and OpenLSO. The MEF has launched two new open initiatives to help bring Third Network services to market faster - OpenCS and OpenLSO.

OpenCS is a network ecosystem that enables a reference implementation - based on a combination of SDN, NFV, Open Source software and Open Spec hardware – of MEF-defined services, starting with CE 2.0 and evolving to Layer 3 IP services and above.

OpenLSO is a service orchestration ecosystem that enables a reference implementation of Open Source solutions and interfaces that adhere to MEF LSO specifications. OpenLSO focuses on real working Open Source code for core LSO functions and open standard APIs for traditional and emerging SDN and NFV network infrastructures, for example based on OpenCS Reference Builds.

At the center of the MEF16 Networking Hall, the Proof of Concept Showcase will provide an opportunity for service providers and network and service orchestration technology providers to spotlight innovations that promise to advance the Third Network services & technology landscape.

  • Team approaches are encouraged: service providers and network and service orchestration technology providers coming together to showcase the results that can be achieved when the innovators in our industry collaborate.
  • Participation will be limited to a maximum of 16 demonstrations involving partnering groups or individual companies. A small panel will assess submissions, and up to 16 submissions will be selected.

Showcase Objectives

The Showcase is an opportunity:

  • To provide a preview of dynamic “Third Network” services as it impacts a target audience of more than 1,200 attendees from 300+ companies at MEF16. This includes professionals from retail, wholesale, cloud, and mobile service providers; data center providers; enterprises; government institutions; utilities; network solutions vendors; the press; investors; analyst firms; and other companies.
  • To raise awareness and educate the Enterprise and Government communities about current state-of the-art Ethernet services and emerging dynamic connectivity services.
  • To show your market leadership in network connectivity and service orchestration, and value-added services in all forms – today and tomorrow, during and after the event.

Showcase Topic Suggestions

The following are just a few of many possible ideas:

  • Demonstrations of MEF Third Network characteristics of agile, assured, and orchestrated services.
  • Demonstrations of the ‘readiness’ and implementation of MEF-defined LSO Architecture, Interfaces and APIs preferably based on an OpenLSO reference implementation.
  • Automated end-to-end service delivery over physical and/or SDN and NFV reference implementation demonstrating MEF’s OpenCS initiative.
  • Interactive, live demonstrations of Carrier Ethernet services utilizing LSO, NFV elements and/or SDN management, with connections to remote labs and live sites.
  • Ethernet Access services delivered and managed across multiple service provider domains monitored by vNID functionality, etc.
  • Demonstrations that combine new dynamic, bandwidth-on-demand or performance-on-demand services with cloud-based applications.
  • Other ideas that show collaboration, partnership, and innovation that will support the focus of MEF16.

Showcase Format & Location

The MEF16 Showcase Format will comprise of 10-minute presentations in the new Networking Hall Theater and on-demand presentation at the participants’ booth inside the two PoC Zones. The Showcases will be during the lunchtime and cocktail networking times.

  • Rotating presentations in the Networking Hall Theater
    • Each participant will have a 10-min presentation each day (8 participants during lunch and 8 during cocktail; presentation order inverted for the second day).
  • The Showcases will largely consist of live remote demonstrations with on-site presentations.

The center of the Networking Hall will be the focus and presentation points for the MEF16 showcases with network connection to live working networks, labs, and demonstration areas within the partner locations.

Notes and Guidelines

  • The goal is that on-site labs or costly equipment transportation or staging should not be necessary to execute the Showcase.
  • Each showcase will have a presenter, possibly in dialog with a streamed partner at a remote lab or other remote location.
  • The MEF will make available network connections to link to remote lab areas and remote interviews.
  • This will be a Showcase for innovation, not for canned presentations or competitive product pitches.
  • This will be a Showcase for innovation, not for canned presentations or competitive product pitches.
  • Partnerships among services providers, enterprises, government organizations, cloud providers, co-location organizations, equipment manufacturers, test and service assurance companies, software or systems integrators are preferred.

MEF Support and Marketing

Support may be provided via third party partners with additional marketing support by MEF. The MEF or third party partners will:

  • MEF will provide graphic support to create consistent demonstration presentations.
  • MEF will provide special Proof of Concept pre-event and on-site support staff to handle logistics, etc.
  • MEF will assist with an after-the-event write up on what was presented.
  • MEF16 web site will include a Showcase page.
  • MEF will facilitate briefings with MEF16 media partners for potential articles.
