Introducing the MEF 3.0 Framework
With the November 2017 launch of MEF 3.0, MEF is accelerating the ability of service providers to create a global ecosystem of networks that deliver agile, assured, and orchestrated services optimized for the digital economy and hyper-connected world. These game-changing services provide an on-demand, cloud-centric experience with user and application-directed control over network resources and service capabilities.
This session will provide an overview of the major elements of the MEF 3.0 transformational services framework and a high level roadmap from CE 1.0 and CE 2.0 services to the various stages of MEF 3.0 evolution. Further, timelines will be discussed with respect to expected MEF 3.0 implementations by major operators and the anticipated impact on CALA service providers.

MEF 3.0 Services, Spotlight on SD-WAN
With the MEF 3.0 global services framework, MEF is uniting industry efforts of enabling orchestrated, on-demand Layer 1 connectivity, Carrier Ethernet, IP, overlay SD-WAN and Layer 4-7 services such as Security-as-a-Service. This work spans a global multi-domain and multi-technology ecosystem of automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks.
This segment introduces the services component of MEF 3.0, a comparison with CE 2.0 as well as a progress report on all major areas of services standardization, and in particular a comprehensive update on MEF's SD-WAN activities.
Panel 1 – New MEF 3.0 Services – Regional Perspectives from CALA
Service providers are starting to invest in open platforms based on SDN/NFV technologies and reshaping how they offer hybrid WAN services. This includes variations on some old technology with some new emerging technology. The WAN and mix of network services are just the beginning.
On this panel, we will hear a perspective on evolving network services requirements, including the need for end-to-end visibility. Service providers will share their thoughts on the evolution of MEF services in CALA, success stories, challenges and opportunities, and near and medium term plans for new service roll-outs.
|13:10||Lunch: Networking & Sponsor's Solutions Briefing|
MEF 3.0 Lifecycle Services Orchestration (LSO)
MEF’s LSO Reference Architecture (MEF 55) and open, standardized LSO APIs form the core of the LSO component of MEF 3.0. MEF 55 guides agile development of model-driven standardized open LSO APIs that enable end-to-end orchestration of MEF 3.0 services, offering innovative perspectives for enabling a real-time partner ecosystem and promoting an agile orchestration-based architecture. This segment will cover the fundamentals of MEF 55 and discuss the MEF LSO API/SDK roadmap, involving completed, in-progress and planned works.
Accelerating New Service Deployments with MEF 3.0 Implementation Projects
MEF’s new business model supports use-case driven live prototype implementations of numerous MEF 3.0 service configurations on the MEF sandboxing platform ‘MEFnet’, designed to accelerate the understanding and adoption of MEF 3.0, as well as to provide immediate feedback to the standards development projects in MEF.
In this segment, we explore MEF 3.0 service implementations including achievements and lessons learned, the plan to evolve these projects during 2018, and other projects on the roadmap for the year. Projects described include the following and more:

MEF 3.0 Services/Technology Certification & MEF Professional Certification Programs
The new MEF 3.0 services and technology certification program is based on a revolutionary cloud-based virtual test platform. This platform empowers subscribers to certify their services and technologies to the latest MEF 3.0 releases for both services and APIs, delivering a comprehensive, subscription-based, Dev-Test approach to orchestrated services certification.
In 2017, MEF introduced a new Professional Certification Framework for creating a global base of certified professionals with the leading-edge skills required to build automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks powered by LSO, SDN, NFV, and CE. The framework expands upon MEF’s popular Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals (MEF-CECP) program, of which there are already 5,500 certified individuals in over 80 countries, adding MEF Network Foundations (MEF-NF) and MEF-SDN & NFV Professional Certifications.
MEF 3.0 & The Road to 5G: Transport, Network Slicing, Orchestration, and Fixed-Mobile Convergence
5G aims to provide higher capacity and higher density broadband, low latency, ultra-reliable communication, and massive machine-to-machine communication (IoT). These characteristics of 5G will also expedite the Fixed–mobile convergence, providing a superior experience to customers by creating seamless services using a combination of fixed broadband and access wireless technologies. 5G imposes requirements on both the mobile and transport networks as well as on the orchestration of the network and the services. MEF has a long history of providing service definitions for mobile transport supporting 2G through 4G/LTE. MEF 5G work addresses the new latency, isolation, and capacity requirements of 5G as well as the management and orchestration of the network and the services. This segment provides an overview of the new requirements of 5G and the MEF 3.0 work to address them: Transport for 5G, Network Slicing, Orchestrating 5G Services, and Services over 5G.
|17:00||Closing Remarks and Questions|
|17:10 - 18:10||Happy Hour & Networking|
